vSphere Hypervisor 7.0 hangs/freezes for 3 seconds every 20 seconds

Hello,

I'm using "VMware vSphere Hypervisor 7.0" (latest build) on an HP DL360p G8.

Installation works fine, but the hypervisor freezes every 20 seconds for about 2/3 seconds. The guest OS's are freezing, even when working in the console, it freezes...

Any input I execute while the freeze is happening is still registered.

It's a really annoying issue, not workable.

ps: I already tried with all vSphere 7 versions, updated bios, and firmware... nothing helps.

Don't see strange things in load on CPU, Memory or Network.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hi team,

We are currently setting up a Ubuntu 18.04 VDI desktops with NVIDIA vGPU attached to it.As per the below documentation,it says that "vGPU graphics capabilities are not supported on instant-clone desktop pools created from Linux desktops. ".

Does this mean, Provisioning desktops using Instant clone type for  Linux/Ubuntu 18.04  with vGPU profile are not be supported

I applied the solution ways in the link but I couldn't succeed again. Who has a different opinion?

I made Hyper-V disable, again I encountered the same error.

Your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMware Workstation with Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled. Refer to VMware KB article 76918 at https://kb.vmware.com/kb/76918 for more details.

Hello, I installed VMware 15.5.6 build-16341506 on win 10 Home (ver 1909) after setting up Ubuntu OS image, I started the guest OS and this error popped up "Your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMware Player with Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled. Refer to VMware KB article 76918 at https://kb.vmware.com/kb/76918 for more details."Untitled.jpg

Then after clicking "OK", another dialog box appeared,

Actually, this is not the first time I am running a Vmware application, I used it before but I had to make a clean installation of win 10 via USB, after that clean install I'm not able to run VMware but before the system reset it worked fine I used to run Ubuntu very smoothly on my system.

Strange ARP / MAC address issue with Windows 2016/2019 VMs

$

Ever since installing Windows 2016 and 2019 VMs into my VMware ESXi 6.7/6.5 environment, we've been having random connectivity issues with a number of these VMs.  It's very bizarre.  Basically services stop functioning (e.g. anything relying on SQL connectivity or file share access from another VM).  Some cases, the destination VM is a 2012 R2 VM, but it always seems to only affect these 2016/2019 source machines.   Often these VMs are on the same subnet as each other, other times they cross subnets.

So far the symptoms are SQL timeouts (references to semaphore timeouts) or file shares inaccessible.  When this is occurring, I can ping back and forth between the systems and telnet sessions to 1433 and 445 connect fine.  However attempts to access an actual file share leads to the typical old school Windows error "network name is no longer available".  For example:

C:\temp>dir \\destinationserver\c$

The specified network name is no longer available.

I've performed a number of troubleshooting steps over the past few months to isolate the problem with little success.  Each of the following failed to resolve anything.  I've rebooted the VMs.  I've migrated them across different ESXi hosts and/or vmnics.  I've even migrated the VMs to the SAME ESXi host and even same vmnic.  Even in this last scenario and when VMs are on the same subnet they STILL could not talk to each other.  I mean that alone rules out most of our environment as a potential culprit I would think.

I finally found something that did resolve the issue, albeit temporarily.  At one point, grasping at straws, I suspected a potential MAC address problem.  I added a new vNIC to the system (to ensure it got a new MAC from VMware), migrated the IP over to it, and deleted the old vNIC, and magically connectivity was IMMEDIATELY restored.  Until it broke again later.

The next time it occurred, I found that if I simply change the MAC within the advanced properties of the NIC within the OS, I could achieve the same success.  I generated a random mac address, and applied it, connectivity was again restored.  I found that even if I immediately reverted that new MAC back to the original MAC assigned by VMware, the connectivity remained.  So the issue is clearly not with the MAC itself, but something that relies upon it.  In fact, in one scenario, a simple clearing of the ARP table of the destination VM fixed the issue, but that's only worked one time.  Most often I have to change the actual MAC but it seems random as to which machine changing the MAC actually works on.  Sometimes it's the source, sometimes its the destination, other times it requires BOTH to be changed.

Usually it's the same exact VMs that continue to be re-affected.  But now the issue is spreading to other VMs that previously never exhibited the issue!

Obviously I can't keep changing MAC addresses.  I need to find a real fix but I'm at a loss.

I've searched high and low and I cannot find any definitive answer or anyone that has seen this exact same problem.  I've seen some mentions of issues relating to VM tools version, but we're on the latest for our environment.  I've seen some mentions of use of the VMXNET3 adapter type, which we use exclusively though they've never been problematic on our 2008/2012 VMs.  I could switch them, but I'd lose my 10GbE I believe if I do.  Even still I won't know if that actually fixes anything until weeks/months down the road.  I've also seen mention about some gratuitous ARP issues where Cisco switches are involved.  We do use Cisco.  With that said, those articles suggest a symptom of duplicate IPs being reported, but we never have that.  Further as mentioned I believe I've removed our switches from the mix by having VMs on the same host and subnet.

I'm fairly certain we don't have duplicate MAC addresses at play here.  I've queried the entire VM environment and show unique MACs are assigned from a VMware perspective.  Also these MACs never change and things work for a time but then stop, and after fixing, I can revert back to the original MAC and issue remains resolved.

So I'm at a complete loss.  Anyone have any ideas???  I found a Reddit post with a seemingly related issue where it was determined, as of a month ago, VMwares is aware of the problem and intends to fix in a later patch for VMware 6.7, but no further information was provided for me to follow up on.  I intend to call VMware now, but I'm sure I'll get stuck in a level 1 support hell who will simply try to repeat everything I've already done.

Edit:  One thing that really confuses me is how ping and telnet work, if ARP is supposedly busted as I would expect those tools require proper working ARP to perform their functions.  Am I wrong?

Storage vMotion

Hello All,

So I am migrating VMs from one datacenter to the other using Storage vMotion and will be migrating both compute and storage. I have the network VLANs stretched between both datacenters and all IPs will remain the same. We have multiple FC and IP 10 Gb links between the datacenters.

Do the source host need to see both datastores? And the data traffic will be only FC between sites or we will have IP  traffic for control?

Thank You!

I'm having issues opening any guest OS console in vSphere 6.0

I don't have vCenter. I'm using vSphere client 6.0 that is installed on my Windows 10 computer to connect to esxi host.

My computer is in domain. I'm using the same DNS information that is configured on esxi host. I can ping the esxi host vice versa.

Here is the error

SSL verification failure for "esxi host ip address" due to thumbprint mismatch: Stored thumbprint "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" does not match certificate thumbprint "43:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

I tried many things already....

- Checked the thumbprint in DCUI (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Checked the thumbprint in the certificate file "rui.crt" (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Installed the certificate on my computer certification store - personal, trusted root certification authority. After installed, i verified the thumbprint of rui.crt (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Uninstalled and installed vSphere client

- turned off firewall and antivirus on my computer

I don't know where certificate thumbprint "43:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx" come from.

But still, I can't open the console.

Changing Guest OS version

Hi guys,

I'm going to upgrade a Cisco Unified Communications Manager software that has guest OS of Red Hat Linux installed on an esxi 6.0.

One of the steps is to change the guest OS to Centos. I've been searching the internet for weeks now and I couldn't find any information or guide about it.

I know where to go to change the OS version but my question is if change the guest OS to Centos will it format the disk?

Fusion Install FAQs says it supports host OS of below MacOS 10/14... but after downloading 11.5, it says 10.13.6 isn't capable of running it... How can I install this thing?

$

My OS version is 10.13.6, High Sierra. The FAQs say it runs as low as 10.11... I downloaded it and when i run it, there's a big NO symbol over the application installer. When I run it it states

"You can't use this version of the application VMWare Fusion with this version of macOS. You have macOS 10.13.6. The application requires macOS 10.14 or later."

Now, that's fine if the version I downloaded (11.5) requires 10.14... but the FAQ says it doesn't, and it's not explicitly clear where to download a previous version that would work on my OS version lives/exists.

I really want to try this, but apparently I'm not able to? It would be great if somebody could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Small font problem in Windows 7x64 running on Fusion 11.5.5 on Mac Catalina 10.15.5

I have just recently upgraded to 11.5.5 from 11.5.3 and even before that, my Windows desktop screen and the Reckon program that I am running  on it suddenly became very small font and is annoying.  I have tried taking the font size to 200 but it hasn't changed the font at all.  The icons on the desktop became very small but I have been able to enlarge them in Windows preferences - the font beneath each icon is still small.

has anybody any suggestions?

Hi

I install NSX local Manager in two site and federate them with NSX-T global Manager and it 's done correctly and I can deploy  stretched network, stretched IP POOL, stretched t0 and . . . from NSX-t GM panel.

I want to integrate vcloud director with NSX-T global manager for automate our infrastructure but I can't add NSX-t Global manager in vcloud director to deploy stretched feature.

I could add NSX-t local manager in vcloud but this integration can't deploy stretched features.

I couldn't find any document for this integration.

Does anyone have any experience or reference document about integrating vcloud and NSX-T GM.

Thank you

Skyline Health not working

Hello everyone,

since a week we recognize that the Skyline Health in our VCSA 6.7U3 seems to have some issues.

We see only three tests under Skyline Health and "Under Online Health Availability" "Online health checks execution" has a yellow mark. The "Online health connectivity" and "Customer experience improvement program (CEIP)" are green.

When we click "Retest" it will work für some time and shows us the tests but then it goes back in the faulty state. A restart of the Appliance changed nothing.

The Ask VMware link is useless. It leeds only to this page VMware Support Offerings & Services.

So where can i look what the problem is or have anyone a suggestion what to do ?

Best regards Sven

Very Slow Deployment of VMs via VPN

Hi,

we have a ESXI server in Italy in our company network. And if i try to deploy a VM from a template with the Vsphere WebClient it works very good and is done in half an hour. But if someone tries to connect in Germany to our server in Germany via VPN he needs 18 hours to deploy only one template. I dont know why but before we had a vCenter Server and everything worked fine and fast in Germany and in Italy. But now we had to deinstall it because we didnt need the vcenter anymore. What could be the cause to this slow deployment??

Unable to enumerate all disks Error

Guten Tag,

ich hatte heute die Dateien VMNAME-000001.vmdk und VMNAME-000002.vmdk gelöscht, da mein Speicher voll war, ich konnte die aber bereits wiederherstellen, nun kommt beim Starten der VM folgender Fehler:

Fehlgeschlagen - Unable to enumerate all disks.

  • Unable to enumerate all disks.

FileUpload Parameter in vRO 8.1

Hi all,

vRO 8 introduced the possibility to upload a file into the input form of a workflow.

I'd like to upload a file and then convert it to a base64-encoded string to use it in a scripting block.

But I don't know which object type to select as input parameter to be able to change the display type to "File Upload". The type "Any" doesn't work unfortunately and plain "object" type cannot be selected. If I just drag the "File Upload" input element from generic elements into the form, a dynamic input ID is created and can partly be referenced. But I still don't know how to retrieve the file or its content from another attribute or in the workflow script itself.

I'd greatly appreciate it if anybody has some hints

Lukas

Question about VMware virtual disk files

$

I run VMWARE 15.5.0 and I have noticed that it keeps saving multiples described as vmware virtual disk files , these files are really heavy and right now I have from "Windows 7 x64-s001: all the way down to "Windows 7 x64-s013", sometimes the files are as heavy as 4gb. My question is this, can I delete these files and still have my vm function properly? is there a way to stop these files from being saved every time or would my vmware keep on saving these files until I run out of disk space? I would really appreciate some help.
