Invalid Configuration for device '0'

Hi all

Trying to upload a VM to ESXi 6.0 using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone version 6.2.0 but the task will not start giving the message "Invalid configuration for device '0'."

I don't know what this pertains to.  The source VM came from Workstation 15 and I thought it may have to do with compatibility level.  I tried changing the source VM level to 12 and to 11 but the same message appear.  Anyone know what the solution might be?

Thanks

VCSA 6.7 and DNS registration

HI,

We have just migrated from a Windows VCenter to a VCSA 6.7 (update 2), OLD VCenter was integrated with the ADirectory and We were able to join without troubles. Migration ended succesfully.

Our question is for the new configuration, new VCSA keeps old network settings, including DNS client settings, but old Windows VCenter record were dynamically registred on the AD DNS servers.

The new VCSA will continue be registered dynamically on the DNS record ? or should we create static entries for it in DNS ?

Best Regards

It's nothing critical, just a disk i use for iso storage, some on host backups, and a scratch drive that i don't want constantly reading and writing to the SSD datastore which works fine.

They are just SATA drives on the mainboard SATA controller, and the other disks work fine just this one isn't.

Intelligent Hub - Hub Services

I'm wanting to enable Hub Services for our Intelligent Hub so that I can use the branding option to set our company logo in the intelligent hub. I've had this enabled in our test environment for awhile now and unfortunately don't remember what type of impact it had on my test devices when I enabled it. Trying to find out what kind of experience my BYOD user might have if I was to enable it in our production environment?

Get IP address and DNS for all VMs

Hey all,

Sorry in advance, but I'm terrible with scripting in general. I'm trying to get name, powerstate, IP address and DNS as it shows in vSphere into a CSV file. So far I have:

get-vm | select Name,PowerState,IPAddress,DNSAddress | cexport-csv c:\temp\vc5_austin_vm_list.csv

Obviously IP address and DNS address aren't the right syntax. Help?

Thanks in advance.

vSRX in VMware Workstation can't ping its gateway and internet

Hello,

I deployed the vSRX in the VMWare workstation and made all the connections bridge. My PC and modem are connected to a switch.

Modem: 192.168.110.1
PC: 192.168.110.110

vSRX ge-0/0/0: 192.168.110.250

the vSRX is not able to ping PC or Modem or internet, but it can ping itself.

I tried to make all the interfaces promiscuous mode via editing the vmx file and adding the commands:

ethernet%d.noPromisc = "FALSE"

But until now I'm not able to ping anything, any thoughts what is wrong?

thanks in advance.1.png

Best Practices when switching carriers and phones

$

Hi All -

iOS only environment with on premise WorkSpace ONE.  We have our DEP tied to the MDM and our OU just under Global is linked to our AD and VPP, assignment groups, etc.  Also, our APN is linked to that top OU.

We are swapping all of our phones/iPads, etc. over to a new service provider and getting brand new phones.  Because of internal changes, I would like to rename that top OU.  Will that cause any issues with the above setups?  I would hate to make that change and lose communication to our phones...I know that sounds ridiculous but I have experienced some issues with similar items in the past with the APN.

What are the best practices for a migration like this?  Should all old phones be enterprise wiped?  Deleted?  A new OU for all the new phones?  I was hoping that not much configuration would have to be done but VMware support has not been helpful.  There is no way to archive old phones and easily enroll a duplicate user over to a new phone?

Appreciate the help

VUM with custom vendor images

Hi,

Are the predefined Critical Host Patches and vSAN Cluster baselines applicable when using custom vendor ESXi images?

(They show as non compliant but are these really meant to work/tested with vendor custom ESXi?)

If not how should one check for updates when using custom vendor ESXi images and can these checks/downloads be integrated in VUM?

Dell/HP are typical examples where custom images are used so not sure if VUM is still applicable to patch such vendor ESXi images.

Thanks

"A required disk image was missing" error when importing VMDK

$

Client version 1.21.0

Client build number: 5724747

ESXi version: 6.5.0

ESXi build number: 6765664

Built an Oracle 7.4 server base configuration, successfully exported it and used the files to import and setup two unique VMs. Attempted it again but for a few VMs with less disk space - got the base Oracle 7.4 setup, exported, but upon importing I always get the error "A required disk image was missing." I can click Finish but when attempting to stat the VM I get the same error. I tried importing the initial larger server VMDK file and am getting the same error so it seems to be something on the console side, not the files... Any ideas? I've googled around and not gotten anywhere.

File slotsfile closed with dirty buffers - what does this mean as the VMs on this host blipped?

Hi,

We had a blip on a host today and the VMs on that host felt it for a a minute and went offline, the error was:

BC: 3118: File slotsfile closed with dirty buffers. Possible data loss. (2020-07-10T09:06:56.110Z cpu0:4970122)

What could this mean?  I can't find anything on this.

Thanks

Horizon 7.5.0 - Clipboard Redirection Stops

Horizon 7.5.0, with UAG, using pcoip, ADMX templates injected for GPO to enable bidirectional clipboard.  Windows 10 VM.

I've been working remotely due to covid and using VDI full-time.

It works great, but then after several days, the bidrectional clipboard becomes nondirectional (doesn't work in either direction).  The clipboard works locally on my local desktop and within VDI, but not through the pcoip session.

I've tried connecting to my VM from another desktop, but it doesn't help.  The only solution is to restart the VM.  I've tried disconnecting session and reconnecting, gpupdate /force, restarting the horizon agent on the VM (which boots me off so then i reconnect), and other versions of the Horizon client.  Nothing fixes it, but a VM reboot.

I even looked in the registry and see the flag set appropriately.  I think I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the Horizon agent.

Any ideas?

When I look at gpresult, I see "Configure clipboard redirection" set to enabled in both directions and the winning GPO is there.  I also see, under Extra Registry Settings, "software\policies\teradici\pcoip_admin\pcoip.server_clipboard_state" flag set to 1 via the winning GPO.

Again, it works, but after several days it completely stops working and requires a VM reboot.

When will DirectX 11 be supported?

I have an application that only runs DX 11. The customer wants to run it on VMWare.

It appears that VMWare Workstation 9 only supports up to DirectX 9C.

When does VMWare expect to support DX 11?

Is there a product roadmap? Sometime in 2013?
