NSX-T 2.5 - Lab Design/Possibilities

I will preference this with I have very basic networking skills and i am trying to learn NSX. I have a lab where i have installed NSX-T 2.5 on two hosts. I have successfully deployed two segments and a Tier-1 gateway and i can get those segments to talk to each other. I am now trying to get these segments to talk out and to the internet. I will also need to access the VMs on these segments from an "external" IP.

I will have a series of VMs in a "pod" and would like to have 1 external IP assigned to this pod of VMs that i could access from this "external" IP and forward various ports to various VMs for connectivity. I am a little lacking in the terminology but is it possible to deploy a Tier-0 gateway for my pods segments that has an uplink(via an edge node?) of an "external" IP that i can then have my VMs access the internet and forward my ports to the VMs?

By "external" IP, i have a network in the lab that is available to my ESXi guests that i can access without anything in the way. It would be an IP on this network that i would like as my external IP for the segments.

Virtual Machine fails in Workstation

I have probably invested more that 40 hrs so far trying to get this working, but I am failing miserably and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong :-(  I have repeated the steps below multiple times, without success.

1. I converted my Lenovo Laptop, running Windows 10 Enterprise to a Virtual machine using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client.  Slow, but it generated the .vmdk file without any error messages ~ 335 GB)

2. I copied the .VMX and .VMDK files to my DELL laptop, running Windows 10.

3. I started VMWare Workstation 8 on my Dell laptop, pointed to the Virtual machine file(s) and when I try to power on the VM I get a blue screen and the error message,

"Your PC run into problem and it needs to restart.  I will restart it for you"

then followed by another blue screen,

Recovery

  Your PC couldn't start properly

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed

  Error Code: 0x0000225

You'll need to use recovery tools

Any ideas?

Hi Sir

We have Server 2012 Remote Desktop Session Host server running as a VM on vSphere 6 / Horizon View 6.2.8.

RDS Farms have two RDSH Servers , bulid in a manual desktop pool.

And we add RDS Session host to windows connection broker server for shadow users RDP Session on RDS..

If user disconnect session , they will fail to reconnect desktop pool . But if user logoff session , reconnect action will success.

We change RDS Farms protocl to RDP will resolve this problem, but we need to use pcoip protocol in our environment.

Need to keep screen from blanking on Horizon client after network disconnect

I have an application for Horizon, but in the case of a network disconnect (2 minute timer) we need the screen to continue to display the last image.

The default behavior is that Horizon waits 120 seconds (2 minutes) and then blanks the screen when the network is lost.  I have searched everywhere but can’t find a way to override that.   We either need to override the blanking behavior or extend the network loss timer.  I even found reference in a VmWorld presentation by the Blast program manager that the timer was configurable but no details on how.

Thanks for any help you can offer

BSOD on W10 Startup after Converting Physical Machine

Hey guys,

Trying to convert a dying laptop with W10 to a virtual machine so that the software can outlive it's aging hardware.  However, when I ran the VMWare converter tool, the resulting virtual file gives me a blue screen of death every time it launches. On the Recovery screen that shows afterwards, I'm told the computer couldn't start properly because "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error Code 0xc0000225".

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong here? Preliminary research showed that perhaps my drive was an IDE when it should have been a SCSI, but that is not the case. It is currently a SCSI, as are the rest of the virtuals that I run, so it doesn't appear to be a driver issue.  I have seen very little else pertaining to this error code that has been helpful, so it would be great if anyone out there has seen this error.

If there is any other information you are curious about, please ask.

Thanks,

Colton

Horizon

https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/vmw-deploy-horizon-seven-on-vmware-cloud-on-a…

Shared

Desktop

VDI

Shared

Desktop

Apps

RDSH

Apps

Workspace

One

vShpere

Horizon Apps Universal Subscription
Horizon Apps Subscription Add-on
Horizon Universal Subscription
Horizon Subscription Add-on
Workspace ONE Enterprise Subscription
Workspace ONE Enterprise for VDI Subscription

  Shared Desktop ⇒ RDS

  Shared Desktop

VLAN configuration

Hi

I'm a newby for VMware and confused about vlan configuration.

My question is

1. If I configure my switch as tag all vlans and configured port group as vlan id 0, Is it possible to ping from VM to inside? I understand that whatever vlan is used, It should work

2. If I configure my switch as vlans 10 and configured port group as vlan id 0, It should work normally

Please suggest me.

Random restarts of Server 2019 on ESX 6.0.0

I have a freshly installed Server 2019 that randomly restarts. The event log shows an uptime event, and the next event, nine seconds later, is a bootup event. There is also a Hyper-V machine running Server 2019 that disappears after these boots. But after rebooting another time, the Hyper-V guest reappears. This is the second time I have encountered this in about a week.

Server 2019 is supported by ESX 6.0.0.

UAG 3.8 Deployment Destination Server Down

$

I'm working on deploying a new View Environment using Horizon 7.11. I'm deploying UAG for the first time and What I've done so far is build the connection server and our UAG (Version 3.8). It's a single nic UAG in our DMZ. Currently I'm confused as to what my PCOIP External URL should be. Currently, I'm seeing all green except my Horizon Destination Server, which shows red. When I check the logs it's saying the connection to my connection server url is timing out. My connection server is on our internal network so it's not accessible from the outside. Does my connection server have to be in the DMZ? Or does my connection server have to have a public IP address? Our current environment uses a security server so Our security server is in the DMZ and has a public IP address to handle outside connections. I assumed that was how I would set the UAG up, so I have a public IP address for the UAG.

Any help would be appreciated.

Get VMX path of a VM?

Hi,

Just wondering how you can find the VMX file of a VM so you can add it to another vCenter?

The aim of what I am doing is to Unregister a powered off VM from one VC and Re-Register it in another VC and for the life of me I can't figure out what the "-VMFilePath" value/format should be when trying to re-add it when using New-VM.

VSphere HA Cluster and Veeam Backup repository on a SAN 10GbE iSCSI network

$

Hello All,

We are in the process of building a SAN storage network for a vSphere HA cluster that will have two ESXi 6.5 hosts as a start. The SAN will have two pools of disks one is for a shared storage datastore for the two ESXi hosts (for the VMs on the two ESXi hosts) and the second pool on the SAN will be a Veeam backup repository. We will be utilizing two 10Gb Ethernet HP switches that will connect the two ESXi hosts, the Veeam backup server and the SAN, the two switches, in a redundant iSCSI 10GbE storage network (Top of Rack configuration). Can I isolate this storage network from the internet and outside world and use a private network IP address range as its subnet? Would that cause any problems? As far as I know, the storage network is selfcontained in terms of traffic to and from the SAN and doesn't need access to the outside world. The only need for the internet/outside world is for downloading updates and I have a management network through which Veeam and ESXi, and the VMs can download updates. Is this correct? or do I need to have my storage network open to the outside world?

the second question I have concerns the configuration of the downstream connections to the SAN: The SAN (Dell EMC ME4012) has dual controllers with each controller has 4 Host ports SFP+ (I am using DAC cable connections for the 10GbE iSCSI connections). Can I use LACP port-channels for the SAN connectivity to the switches? How should this look like in terms of topology? are there any downsides for this configuration (i.e. using LACP link aggregation)?

I am a newbie in SAN networks and I have done some research but didn't find clear answers to these questions...your help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

vmk1 management interface behind soft firewall

$

Hi community,

I am trying to create a secondary managment vmk1 interface behind a soft firewall, which runs in the same esxi.

My Firewall has two interfaces, one facing the internet and the second my lan, where the vmk1 is connected.

For this secondary management interface I have created a custom TCP/IP stack.

So far I have achieved to access my lan through a VPN and ping my vmk1 IP Address.

However when I try to access the web management interface I receive a TCP ACK/RST message.

Do I have to adjust or activate sth?

Many thanks in advance!
