HTML Bridge URL

I have a question about using "absolute" URLs in the HTML Bridge plugin.xml file.


I want to present a page that is running from our existing web page server.  Right now I have:


         <componentClass className="com.vmware.vsphere.client.htmlbridge.HtmlView">



            <object>



               <root>



                  <url>https://localhost:8888/MyManagement.html</url>



               </root>



            </object>



         </componentClass>



For for my real plugin/applicaton server installation, I will need to be able to configure the port and host that our web page server runs on.  Is there a way to some how do this with the plugin.xml and this type of usage? It would need to be something I can setup in some file that gets referenced from the plugin.xml file.  I am thinking something along the lines of



        


                       &lt;url&gt;https://$:$/MyManagement.html&lt;/url&gt;


 Where somehow the settings for HOSTNAME and PORTNUM come from some external setting.  Is something like this possible through some mechanism?

How to connect to LAN or internet via Bridged network in Debian VM on Win 7 VMWare Workstation 10?

I have installed VMware Workstation 10 on a Win 7 host. Then I have a Debian 7 guest installed. The Debian 7 guest vm works fine with NAT. It is able to connect to the internet through my host's internet connection. With this set-up, it cannot see my LAN nor my host. I want it to be able to seen by other computers on the LAN and also see the other computers including the host on the LAN. I have tried setting up the Bridged networking and also assigned a static IP to the virtual MAC ID. When I run ifconfig -a, I can see the IP that I assigned and also the MAC ID. So it appears it did talk to my router and receive the assigned IP. But then when I ping the router or another server on my LAN, 100% packets are lost. It does not see the LAN nor the internet. And when I check the active client list in my router, I do not see the MAC ID and assigned IP as being active. What could be causing this and how do I go about tackling this issue?

Sql Server installation on vmware machine

Hi I have installed sql 2012 on a workstation 10 machine, configured the firewall port, set the protocols and allowed the browser service access through the firewall.

 

On my host install of Sql 2012 I can see the vmware instance in my network server list but when I try to connect I get and error saying the instance cannot be found.

 

Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated thanks

Migrate vCD Centos 5.7 to CentOS 6.*

Hi,

 

does anyone have made experience in the migration of a vCD installation to another host ?

In my case from CentOS 5.7 to 6.*

In order to upgrade vCD from 5.1 to 5.5 i want first complete the migration if the vCD to a supportedOS.

 

Iam using a DB hosted on an external  SQLServer,

 

Testenvironment:

Install minimal Image CentOS 6.5

rsync /opt/vcloud-director & start scripts

Start vcd and check logs .....

 

But maybe its not that simple

OverviewWhen I was a Junior in high school (1983-4), I had to write one of those "where I'll be in 20 years" essays. At the time, I was sure that I'd be a successful chemical engineer (CE) with several patents to my name.
How naive we can be...
Although I did a short stint as a chemist (and have the patents to show for it), I've been a full-time geek for the last 20 years. View 'Agent Unreachable

I’ve got a client with a vCenter 5.0/ View 5.0.1 environment using Windows 7 linked clones and 2 sub domains and many of the VMs in one domain are showing Agent Unreachable. The client has been suffering from this for the last week, but they were previously fixing it by resetting the VMs or restarting the VC which brought everything back up for a few days. This morning its happened again and they have been unable to fix it. The desktops show as Available, and then a few minutes later show “Agent Unreachable” however there is nothing in the View, VC or Agent logs that show why this is happening and the View Agent Service is still running. They have tried restarting the service, resetting the desktop, refresh, manually reverting snapshots, recomposing, restarting VCS, VC and SQL all to no avail. This is only affecting the VMs on one domain, but not every linked clone in the pool and not every pool using that image and these pools were previously working without issue. Anyone have ANY suggestions as I’m reaching the end of my tether?

not able to start my VM

Hi Everyone,

 

I create a VM using VMWare workstation 10 and then I moved it to another machine and now I am having issues with starting the VM. I am getting below error msg when I start the VM. I have encrypt this VM and that's why I am getting this error.

 

Error message: "The restrictions management server must be accessible when this restricted virtual machine is used for the first time on this host. Check your network connectivity and try again.

Group of students all login as the same user, how to preserve what they save?

Unusual situation that is unique to education. We have nearly every machine that a student were to touch (labs, libraries, and rolling laptop carts) using VMWare View. Students login as themselves and save documents all the time. During state exams we have all of our special education students login as ExamUser so they do not have access to previous files they have saved and internet access is disabled. Students type answers in MS Word or Wordpad and at the end of the exam print to a printer and logoff.

 

The issue becomes, what happens in the middle of an exam when a student accidently logs off the computer or the computer has some type of difficulty. Our desktops are set to refresh on logoff so even if they have saved their document to the desktop during the exam, it is lost. The only solution I can think of is issue flash drives and during the exam have users save their documents to the flash drive.

 

Any other way you can think of to preserver their work in case they log off before printing their test?

If Windows 2008 R2 is consuming all memory than why not just use reservations?

Since vSphere starts overcommittment techniques when the Consumed memory > Host memory,  I am trying to understand why the Consumed memory eventually uses all memory even though the Active Memory does not increase and is approximately 1/20 of the Consumed memory.   I have run RAMMAP on one of the VMs and it is saying that 29GB or 32GB is unused,  yet vSphere sees it as Consuming all 32GB memory.  Eventually the host starts Ballooning some VMs memory.  I do not want ballooning and based on Active Memory I shouldn't even be close to Ballooning.

 

I have continued to add more 32GB VMs (no reservation) and I notice that the Consumed memory for all VMs go down as the new VM has been running.  So the overall Consumed memory for the host stays the same and the VMs rebalance their Consumed memory.   Which leads me to believe that the Consumed memory is more a function of vSphere memory management as opposed to what the OS is grabbing.

 

How is Consumed calculated?  How is affected by time and operation (for example how does vMotion affect a VMs Consumed)?  Is it rebalanced?

 

I would like to be able to overcommitt a little without having the overcommitt techniques firing up.   If not,  wouldn't it make sense to just use full Reservations for all VMs?  That would at least save on disk space required for vswp files.

No management network / lost network after upgrade to 5.5

Recently upgraded my vcenter to version 5.5 which went without any hickups also update VUM to 5.5.

Uploaded the new vSphere 5.5 image in VUM and after scanning, run ran that upgrade on a test server.

Test server was running v. 5.0. It comes back up but has lost all network connectivity. It has lost the management network - options which show up as greyed out in the System Configuration page (see screenshot).

Looking at the host log, I can see errors like: RefreshVmKernelNic: Unable to getVmKernelNIcs: Sysinfo error on operation returned status: not found.

 

Both the host file and the config file show the "old" network info (e..g correct IP addresses and hostname)

 

esxcfg-vswitch -l shows no results

esxcfg-nics -l shows all nics and the link is up.

 

Server is an IBM Blade H22 and the NICs are Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709s (which are on the HAL for 5.5)

 

Also had a look in the vkernel log and that reports:

etherswitch: esvsigetparamportcfg:424: Management network: not found

 

any ideas?

How to identify the HDD type / Serialnr

Hi Community,

I would like to know if it is possible to identify which HDD I do access concretely:

 

In an esxi 5.5 scenario, I have 2 or 3 identical HDDs which cannot be distinguished by the Capacity (absolutely identical) and the identifier which is anounced by Configuration -> Storage. There I can see only identifiers like naa.5002455784d568d3, but where can I see the manufacturer, the model and - if available - the serial number of that device?

 

I would like to know which physical hdd concretely is assigned to my storage.  OK, I could shut down the esxi system and remove all hdds except one and find out the ID but can I identify the HDD also directly in the vsphere client?

USB3.0 Storage

Hi People,

I know that there are already some discussions about my problem...

Nevertheless, I didn't find a clear answer:

 

Can I get USB3.0 PCI-Ex Cards which are 100% compatible with ESXi5.5?

 

I would like to use Some Harddisk storage temporary by an ESXi System 100% als I had it as SAS or SATA HDD inside my Server.

When I searched in the forum by that theme, I found only tipps for passing-through the usb controller to the VM. But Can I get it, that ESXi5.5 System interpretes these USB3.0 disks like internal disks so that I can assign the Storage space to one or more VM's?

Can't drag and drop VM into folder

Hello,

 

I have organized my VMs into folders, and some of them I cannot drag and drop. The icon is the circle with the diagnoal line through it, and it won't let me release it on the folder. I can't figure it out, I can do it with most VMs and templates, whether they are on or off. Any insight?

Install Certification Toolkit 5.5 failed

All,

 

I am running a storage 5.5 cert and I want to upgrade the cert toolkit on the VM's.


Installation Helper does this, but when I run that on my VM's I get the following error:

The action (install Certification Toolkit 5.5) failed.

 

Do I need to install that toolkit on Workbench first, or does it come in the Storage 5.5 cert?

I don't see any install advice in the Workbench getting started guide or the Installation Helper guide for the cert toolkit.

Fusion 6.02 and thunderbolt storage support?

Will there be at any time an update which support thunderbolt storage device or do I need to move over to Parallels Desktop 9?

I'm using VMWare Win and Linux Images for IT forensic work (one licence for testing @ home and one at work) and need more performance than USB2. With USB2/(3) I can use my Wiebetech write blocker to connect external storage devices. I can also use software write protection with thunderbolt in theory - if it would work with TB in general. It would be very useful to have thunderbolt storage support. Are there any plans?

The scenario is used on a MacBook Pro 15" retina late 2013 with nvidia graphics which supports Thunderbolt2.

 

Boot camp isn't really an alternative way to run the Linux/ Win images as I need to load/ unload and freeze the images or use different for testing purpose. So flexibility with virtual images is a must. So question is to stay with VMWare Fusion 6+ (which is stable and reliable) or move over to the competition. Anyway I'll give Parallels 9.02x a try to have some more arguments for this thread here.

Setting Guest Customization Section Fails in 5.5

Hi,

 

Since migrating to vCloud 5.5 the following script fails which worked in 5.1:
