VMware ESX cannot find the virtual disk "/vmfs/volumes//<datastore>/VM1/VM1.vmdk ". Verify the path is valid and try again.
When we browse to check the files in datastore>VM folder, there was no VM1.vmdk of the virtual machine and we can see VM1-flat.vmdk and VM1-ctk.vmdk files?????
We have re-created the VM1.vmdk file and brought VM live in production (as mentioned in the link),
My Question is:
What could be the reason for vmdk descriptor file is missing???
How all these days it was working fine without any issue??

VCAP6-DCV Deploy certification
Hi all,
I am currently studying for this exam and I am planning to take it at the beggining of September.
I didn't found any note from VMware saying that is going to be discontinued so my concern is... is there any plan to discontinue this exam and if so, it should let candidates to take exams in a great period (I mean 3-4 months from the Discontinued date).
Anyone know anything about this?
Also, if someone wants to join to this "experience", you're welcome!

Just had host fail/HA events, but LogInsight shows 0 HA events
Hey all - have LogInsight deployed in a client and hoping to use it to track HA events. They just had an ESXi host fail and HA events occur. Log into LogInsight, have the content pack installed, I can see "HA Heartbeat" info, but under "HA Events" on the dashboard there are 0. I've made sure to set the time frame within the last hour, within the last 24 hours, etc. Nothing shows.
If I go to interactive analytics and search "vSphere HA restarted" in the last 6 hours I get 18 events... which is correct.
The dashboard is set up for:
Which yields nothing.
The "VMware HA events by VM" dashboard item is defined by:
Which also yields no output.
All I am seeing is this:
Window is scaled to obscure hostnames intentionall.
Any thoughts here? This is LogInsight 4.5.1

vSAN not displayed as option in Converter destinations for P2V
I am trying to do a P2V conversion with vCenter Converter Standalone, but when I get to the destination location, only the hosts datastores are displayed, is using a vSAN not supported for converter?

1 diskgroup per HBA ?
Hi,
Looking for some clarification on something pls folks!
I'm trying to fully understand disk groups and their interaction with HBAs. I understand a diskgroup can contain up to 7 SSDs for capacity and 1 cache device (nvme device most likely).
Can a single HBA have multiple diskgroups? I want to use a 24 bay chassis, with a sas expander, initially 7 bays populated for the capacity tier, 2 bays populated with nvme ssds for caching. For future storage growth I want to be able to drop in additional capacity drives and cache drives, will this work with a single HBA? Or is it a case of it will work, but advisable to have another HBA, as it creates another fault domain and presumably could impact performance if all drives are on one HBA? The nvme devices will be directly connected to the mobo from the sas expander.
From what I can tell the sas expander can be connected to two HBAs, splitting the drives between controllers.

VM customization not prompting for IP
So, I must be going crazy. I'm coming from vCenter 5.5. For years I've deployed VM templates using a customization specification that's configured to prompt for an IP.
I moved us to the 6.5 U2 VCSA a few weeks ago. Now I'm trying to deploy a VM from a Content Library and I never get asked to provide an IP. I've triple checked my script to confirm the setting is set to prompt user, and I've created a new script from scratch. At no point during deployment am I prompted for an IP, and using the customization script without providing an IP causes the deployment to fail.
What gives?

New VM from Library: customization desen't propmt for IP

I'm using vSphere 6.5 with a content library populated with s windows 2012 template. In the vceneter customization spec manager I've created a specification that has to prompt me fro an IP.
If I deploy a VM from a template NOT in library, using the customization decribed obove, it correctly prompts me for the IP address
If I deploy a VM from a template in library, using the customization decribed obove, it DO NOT prompts me for the IP address
Any idea?

the deploy VM infraops took so much time?
as shown in figure below:
the stage of deploying the DEPLOYVM0 took over 2 hours.(maybe to 3 hours)
is it normal?
i was performing 5-tile test on a 4-node SUT vSAN cluster and this occurred;
the vmmark3-template was placed in an external disk LUN and the targetLUN(for deploy VM) was set to the vsanDatastore(which is in the SUT).
but basically the deploy time was short when i did some 4-tiles tests, which took less than 1 hour.
any ideas?

ReSTNSX - Migrating objects between NSX managers of any version
Do you have multiple NSX Managers? Dev, Test, Production? Cross vCenter? Migrating between different NSX managers (ie: NSXv to NSX-T)? If you do, you have probably discovered that it can be difficult to create and migrate objects between them. One example is building firewall rules across multiple NSXv managers. Administrators have to perform repetitive tasks such as creating the rules and rule dependency objects for each NSX manager (such as Dev, Test, Prod). Another option is determine how to better script it using API. This approach provides no insight into dependencies or duplications, etc... All of this changes with the power of .

Host faults when using a VM over a network drive (smb)
Hi all,
I have to solve this problem of mine:
On a Mac mini running High Sierra 10.13.5 have installed Fusion 10.1.2, meant to keep running a Windows 10 64bit guest over a network drive (hosted on a D-link 320, raid 1) (Performance is not the purpose of that VM).
With the above setup, uptime cannot go longer than a day and few hours before get a random core dump by the Mac.
Tried to pinpoint the reason, done several tests, and to make things short, I did noticed the system goes stable and got no more dumps after I moved the VM to the internal SSD of the Mac. From that time onward did not witnessed the Mac reboot itself again.
I'd like, anyway, move the VM back to the external share, so it will be nice pinpoint why I get that behaviour and being able to fix it.
Can someone tell me the correct procedure to get all necessary info to investigate the problem? (which logs to copy, etc)
