Add/Remove CPU capacity of virtual machine
I see within the alert definitions a way to automate the addition of CPU resources to a virtual machine experiencing stress but I do not see the ability to remove if the virtual machine is over provisioned. Does anyone know if this is possible? Maybe I am missing this option? I have the need to Add/Remove CPU/MEM resources as vRealize Operations sees fit but also would need to make sure this only occurs during specific times. (assuming I might be able to schedule it although ideally it would be best if it would happen the next time the virtual machine was restarted) If anyone can offer any insight I would appreciate it. Thank you.
Horizon 7.4 with Instant Clones
Hi
I'm new to Horizon and want to use Horizon 7.4, with a desktop pool of Windows 10 non persistence desktops (instant clones). Is it possible to do this without installing sql DB for event DB. Please advise
VMware Workstation Pro 14 is not working any more on CentOS 7 after Kernel Update
Hello to all here,
Today, CentOS 7.4 has updated the kernel.
When I try to start vmware, VMware Kernel Module Updater tells me,
that several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.
After that, I get a error and a hint to the log file, which I appended to this message.
Also the patch of Darius don't work any more.
(See the logs below)
Does anyone know, whats the matter?
Greetings from North Germany,
Holger
This is the log of the try to load the modules regularly:

uploads to data store either fail, get stuck or time out
Hello-
I am trying to upload ISOs of Windows so that I can install my Windows OSes for my ESXI setup. The ISOs will either timeout or fail to upload. I have set the application timeout to be never but it still either gets stuck or will simply try to upload and fail, or fail during the upload. As I am still new to ESXI, I am uploading the support bundle as I am not sure which log is needed. I am using the free version of ESXI 6.5. The datastore is on a 256 SSD i7 with 16GB of RAM. The specific hardware is a Mac Mini but i have not this issue of ISOs failing to upload in previous times I have tried to use ESXI.
I was able to get a Server 2012 ISO to upload but the ISOs I am trying to upload are windows 10 and windows 8. I can use the ISOs to install VMs on my local machine using VMware Workstation.
Moving to Esxi 6.5 is having firewall/networking issues
I moved from Esxi4 to 6.5 and everything works fine except the VPN connection. To establish the VPN connection I used Endian Firewall 2.3 that is installed as a virtual machine inside Esxi.
Before this upgrade my IT infrastructure used ESXi 4 and everything worked; after the upgrade to ESXi 6.5 the openVPN (provided by Endian Firewall) can establish the connection but the PCs inside the Intranet are not reachable (neither PING nor RDP works) by the client from outside. I tried using the same VM (phisically) of Endian Firewall but also installing the last version: the problem is the same.
Does anyone has an idea of what could be the reason of this problem? What is changed in the security/networking model of ESXi 6.5 (compared with 4) that could cause this problem?
Thanks in advance
Roberto
Guest operation authentication failed for operation List Processes ----- What The ????
Good morning all:
I've been a long time fan of vRealize Log Insight. I finally got a position with a company that recognizes the value and we've been running a test (eval) for pre-implementation. Last week, we began getting messages regarding the 'ingestion' rate; along with disk space and retention time messages. In order to alleviate the warnings, I added a 2TB disk. I specifically did NOT try to increase the size of the existing drives. (I seem to recall that such a move can damage the entire VM.)
Now, the system is not functioning at all. I keep getting the message "Guest operation authentication failed for operation List Processes [name of vm]" I've noticed also that although the new drive shows up in the "Edit Settings' screen. I wasn't seeing any indication that the drive had been included; so I decided to reboot the system. Now the situation is even worse because now, I can't even bring up the login web page.
Has anyone seen this before, and more importantly, does anyone know how to fix this? Ironically, I was supposed to be giving a team demo of vRLI to my colleagues. However, the lack of access to the program has obviously curtailed that action. I'm hoping that my colleagues here in the community will have the solution. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help that you can provide.
How migrate Vcenter to VCSA database
Hi. We have Vcenter here, and I'm trying to migrate it to the vcenter server appliance. Now, I have installed the VCSA (5.5 for now, upgrade later). I've been reading lots of vmware docs, as well as 3rd party sites, but they only seem to cover the VCSA installation. I haven't found out how I can "import" VMs and current vcenter settings to the VCSA database. I'm probably missing something fundamental, so forgive me for that. I hope someone can point me in the right direction here. Thank you.

2V0-622 Valid For VCP6-DCV > VCP6.5-DCV Recertification?
Is exam 2V0-622 a valid exam to take if you already have a VCP6-DCV cert? I have a discount voucher for VMware exams and it cannot be used for delta exams.
Script to pull storage path information for specific esxi hosts.
Hello All,
I want to view the storage path status and count of each dead and active path for specific hosts. I've got below script , however I want to modify the script to add input file where I can specify the list of ESXi hosts which the script would query. Any input will be greatly appreciated,
&{foreach($esx in Get-VMHost){
$esxcli = Get-EsxCli -VMHost $esx -V2
foreach($adapter in $esxcli.storage.core.adapter.list.Invoke() | where{$_.Driver -match 'fc'}){
$obj = [ordered]@{
VMHost = $esx.Name
Adapter = $adapter.HBAName
Active = 0
Standby = 0
Dead = 0
}
$esxcli.storage.core.path.list.Invoke() | where{$_.Adapter -eq $adapter.HBAName} |
Group-Object -Property State | %{
$obj."$($_.Name)" = $_.Group.Count
}
New-Object PSObject -Property $obj
}
}} | Export-Csv report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

List of failed logins in case of esxi 6.5
How can I list the failed logins to an esxi host using PowerCLI? I try to use this KB article VMware Knowledge Base , but It doesn't work with version 6.5.
There is an annoying root account lock error on a few hosts.
Thanks in advance!

ESXi 6.5 Not connecting to any network
Hello, I've recently installed ESXi 6.5 onto a Dell PowerEdge R710 (2x X5660, VT-d enabled) server I recently acquired, with the intent on running 2 Windows Server VMs on it. However, I'm stuck at a rather large snag: ESXi will not connect to any network over the built in ethernet ports. I've tried plugging it in directly into a computer, and then a spare wifi router (used as a switch in this case) and it simply refuses to connect. It doesn't show up at all in the router's "Attached Devices" panel. I've tried moving to a different interface to no avail, and setting the IP Address to both Static and DHCP with no avail. Any inbound or outbound connections to or from it respectively simply fail. I can't set up the server if I can't get to it's management
Any help would be appreciated!
Looking for example Customization Specification that uses 'Run Once'
I want to run batch files and powershell scripts as part of the process of provision new windows servers. Now totally failed to find examples or documentation on how to use 'run once', clearly my 'google-fu' is weak.
If I have X batch file and Y powershell script located in Z directory on the template what do I put into 'run once' field to kick them off when the template is cloned and the customization is applied?

Adding new MAC Address range?
Hi,
I'm migrating / cloning license servers from Hyper-V to VMware, The current hyper-V MAC Addresses are not within the range and cannot be used.
Adding the mac address in the Operating System is not working.
I know that within SCVVM it's possible to add a MAC Address range, is this also possible in vCenter 6 or on the host?
Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Dennis
vCenter Migration Tool: Windows to Appliance
Hello,
we are trying to migrate an existing Windows Vcenter Server 6.5 to the VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.5.
The migration assistant does not support this operation, is there a manual way through CLI to migrate from Windows to Appliance in Version 6.5 or any other recommended way?
Thank You
Philipp
