Trying to add the license key through vSphere Web Client I get an error “The following serial keys are invalid”. What should I do?

Edit Alarm Action E-mail Recipients

$

I was wondering if anybody had a script for PowerCLI/vCenter 5.5 to mass edit the e-mail recipients under "Configuration" for 'Send a notification email' under Alarm->Actions in vCenter.

I looked throughout Google but I had only found broken links or scripts that are for version < 5.0

I would ideally like it to over-write the entire list of values but if there is one available that will simply append new recipients to all alarms, I could deal with that as well

Thanks for any help you may provide

No 'UPGRADE option available after failed installation of ESXi 6.0 on a stand-alone host

$

Dear All, I have a stand-alone ESXi 5.0 host which I was trying to install 6.0 on. The installation failed due to missing drivers of NIC card r8168. Anyways, I have created a new ISO using ESXi Customizer utility and ready to do the installation once again from the new ISO. The problem now is that there is no 'upgrade' option available when I try to upgrade it, I am only getting 'Install' options which will wipe out the existing configs etc completely. In summary: The host is still running fine and no issues with it. The issue is that ESXi 6.0 installer founds no existing ESXi installation on the host and suggest an installation instead of an upgrade option, this has happened after a few failed attempts to run the upgrade. I found this page on this forum https://communities.vmware.com/thread/445526?start=0&tstart=0 which says the solution is to Move the local.tgz (in /altbootbank/state.xxxxx/) one directory higher. I don't have a clue how to do that. Appreciate any help on which program to use and what commands to run to make sure the old installation is seen by the ESXi 6.0 installer again. Thanks, Abid

Application in View VM crashes less after ESXi host reboot?

$

There is in-house application in our environment that has a crashing issue. It is housed in a floating pool (~90VMs) that is using a few Tesla M10 GPUs (app used a 3D PDF viewer). They have been tracking the crashes for a couple months now and have recently noticed a trend that anytime the hosts are restarted the application crashes less for about a week and then slowly gets worse. I know it's not normal to reboot hosts and have a hard time believing that this is "fixing" the crash issue.

A couple weeks ago I began restarting the VM's every night in an effort to help with the crash rate. This didn't help. There were a couple issues out of my control that required us to restart these hosts in the past 2 months and they noticed a correlation with crash rates being less after it restarted.

I guess my question could there be any validity to this? Even though I delete, recompose, restart VM's frequently there is something else that is reset when the host restarts?

Sorry if this is making little to no sense. I've been tasked to explain why the app crashes less after a host reboot and at a loss. I don't have a lot of experience with managing ESXi hosts and clusters. I mostly manage our View environment and generally don't have to interact much with the hosts because they just work!

Is VMWare Player support the connection to the shared VMs from VMWare Worstation?

Is VMWare Player support the connection to the shared VMs from VMWare Worstation?

I know that in VMWare Worstation is possible to share the VMs, but is it possible to connect to them from a VMWare Player or is it necessary to have multiple license and instances of VMWare Workstation?

Thanks!

MS SQL Express for View 7.4

Hello:

Planning an upgrade for our Horizon View environment, currently running 7.0.3 with three hosts and ~50 vPCs.  Includes a standalone View Composer service running MSSQL Express 2008.   My question concerns supported version of MSSQL Express for Horizon 7.4 - although the Standard and Enterprise versions of MSSQL SQL server 2014 and 2016 are all supported, the Compatibility Matrix doesn't list any version of MSSQL Express later than 2012 as either compatible or not compatible ....

Not really interested in standing up a full-blown SQL Server installation, but would also like to move to a newer database platform than 2012.  Is the use of MSSQL Express 2014 or 2016 a supported configuration?

Thanks,

Thom

No space left in Datastore after deleting snapshot.

Hi,

the story goes like this:

On VmWare ESXi 6

1. I increased the disk space in three VMs and took a screenshot of each one.

2. I kept the screenshots because I didn't know they would keep growing.

3. Today they stopped working because of full disk space in vmdk, but it appeared like it had a lot of disk space left.

4. After some searching, found out the snapshots had gotten so big they allocated all the free space. So I decided I should delete the snapshots as they are useless to me.

5. Deleted the snapshot of the one VM and got a message that I should consolidate the disks.

6. I tried but, the consolidation failed because of insufficient disk space in the datastore.

In other words:

Before deleting the snapshot, I had ~30GB free in the VM disk, but the snapshot was 30GB itself, so no space. Now that I deleted the snapshot from snapshot manager, the disk appears to be full and I can't consolidate it.

What is your suggestion?

Thank you

About VMcom Backup Appliance

Virtualization has changed the way people utilize computing and storage resources. Multiple teams or even organizations now share physical hardware in order to maximize its utilization and efficiency. But what about backups?

If I'm allowed to create and manage VMs without worrying about the underlying hardware, I should be able to manage backups as well. Shoud I not? After all, VM's owners know best when to back up and when to restore.

Luckily, there is a solution: VMcom Backup Appliance.

It is a pre-installed virtual machine designed to back up and recover VMware VMs.

Coming from an ISP background, the VMcom Backup Appliance is highly multitenant. It enables the central administrator to create isolated (tenant) environments within a single appliance. Each tenant can then be assigned a set of privileges for backup and recovery of particular vSphere objects and a storage quota.

Using this arrangement, VM owners can manage their own backup plans, run on-demand backups and perform restores of both individual files and entire VMs. All this can be done using a fast, modern HTML5 interface while maintaining a single pane of glass management for vSphere administrators.

Learn more on this blog or at the VMcom website: https://vmcom.com

The solution is free for non-commercial use. There are no functional or capacity limitations of the free version. Any reason not to try it?

Replicating appstack between DCs

$

I was reading documentation about appstacks and non-attachable storage, but I still don't really know how to move appstack between DCs. If I have FC storage then I can not present a lun to both datacentres that are on different continents with only IP connectivity.
So I guess that you need some storage which support array level replication over IP so you basically have non-attachable storage LUN that is in each DC presented from local array.

Other two options that comes to mind are:

- use some SW like veeam and replicate appstack VMDKs. Can you even replicate VMDKs that are not part of a VM ?

- use some VM where you do NFS export which is then mounted on vsphere in both DCs. This is questionable how would NFS datastore work over something like 200ms latency.

Any better ideas ?

Troubleshooting Blast through UAG

Hi

I am having problems with Bast connections through my UAG, I am just finishing off a deployment so its not yet work

When i try to connect through the UAG

In the client i don't get an error , it just spins for 10 seconds and then goes back to the pool selection screen

in the admin console on the connection server it allocates me a vdi in the events log

Is there a way to trouble shoot bast connectivity through the chain ?

it works fine over vpn or internally so in my mind it must be either firewall , the uAG tunnel or SSL error

to add my internal dns is different to my external , i am using a wildcard for the external dns all the way through to my connection server and it looks ok

PCOIP is working fine also

Thanks

Recompose of Horizon desktop pools breaks desktops

Hello,

We have been having an issue for the last 2 months. We patch and recompose our parent images near the end of each month. Starting about 2 months ago after we patched and recomposed some of our desktop pool no longer work. When users try to log in they receive and x1002 error that says to contact your system admin. I cannot find anything in the logs for what is happening. I have talked to VMware support but they were not able to figure it out either. We recently upgraded to 7.4 and ESXi 6.5. We have tried to roll back the agents and tools on some of the desktops to see if they will work again, some of them do but some of them do not. We have also tried to reinstall tools and the agent to rule out the SVGA conflict issue, but the issue still persists. We are having a very hard time figuring out what is going on since it is a very inconsistent problem. I would appreciate any help or info from anyone who may be having this same issue.

The goal of that document is to give a very deep technical understanding on

. How to configure the different network and security services in OpenStack

     . How OpenStack/NSX-T works

It is based on OpenStack Pike.

Note: It also highlights the specifics with VIO 4.0

Hello,

I am running a large VM on my c:\ drive for the past few months.  I had the original VM located on my d: drive which I had copied over to c.  In order to free up some space I deleted my old VM on the d:\ drive.

Now when I started my VM, I am presented with this error:

This is strange as all of the files are on c:\.  When I used the Browse... button and located the same .vmdk file on the c:\ drive, I now get presented with this error:

I had made a complete backup copy on an external drive a few days ago; however when I tried to open up the VM from this drive I received the same errors.

I find this very strange as the vmdk files on my c:\ drive have been accessed recently (i.e. the dates have been modified recently).  Therefore I am hoping there is a way to modify this in order to get it working correctly.

Thanks!

Graham

Hi all

Looking for a snapvol.cfg which only means the profile is saved in the Appvolume, as VMware onlys upply a UIA + Profile template, which bloats my app volumes with huge Windows and program files directories

I have tried

exclude_path=\Program Files exclude_path=\Program Files (x86) exclude_path=\Windows

But doesn't seem to do much

I don't use appstacks and dont want to save anything except the profile, as i update from a golden image to my linked clones in Horizon
