iSCSI Adapter doesn't detect new Devices/Paths after Rescan

Hi,

 

I'm having a very strange situation with a new environment composed of the following:

 

-Dell FX2 Enclosure with 4 FC630 Nodes & PCI-e 10GBaseT (The Enclosure also has 2 FN410T Switches but they are not being used)

-EqualLogic PS6210 with 10GBase-T as well

- Switch 10GBaseT Alcatel 6900

 

I have updated the HW to the latest level and installed ESXi 6.0 (Build 6765062) on the 4 Nodes, I have configured the iSCSI Software Adapter with one Port Group that only uses 1 NIC, also the MTU of the Storage and Switch is set to 9000, also the vSwitch is configured this way, as I'm making tests everything is on the same Network, the EqualLogic is configured as well with the iSCSI initiator and is allowing full access to the volumes.

 

The problem I'm having is that when I make a re-scan on the iSCSI adapter the paths/devices are not being refreshed immediately, the task itself is completed within seconds and no errors are sent but I don't see any of the presented LUN's/Volumes from the EQ, sometimes I need to make several re-scans on the adapter so I can see the some paths but most of the time the re-scan doesn't show anything. I have noticed that if I restart the Node the paths are completely updated however this shouldn't be the behavior.

 

I have an old infrastructure with a couple of PS6100 and R910 Servers configured the same way and after adding a new Volume a re-scan on the iSCSI adapter detects the new path/device immediately, so I was wondering if someone has had a similar issue, what baffles me is that I don't see any errors on the ESXi or the Storage, as I said before the re-scan tasks are completed successfully and within seconds but no new paths are being shown.

 

Hope someone can shed some ideas on this problem

Workstation 14 Windows 7 Guest using bitlocker and TPM 2.0

Hi;

 

  I was trying to set up a Windows 7 Ultimate Guest using Bitlocker on the boot drive (as a test). But, I can't seem to get Bitlocker to enable in the Guest for the boot drive for some reason.

 

  I installed a new Guest with Windows 7 Ultimate w/SP1 using EFI instead of BIOS.  I encrypted the Windows 7 Guest from workstation (as apparently required by Workstation).

 

I added a TPM 2.0 to the hardware list, and then installed the Windows 7 hotfix for TPM 2.0 in the Guest. I then updated the TPM 2.0 driver by selecting the driver manually from the list of security devices. It now shows up under device manager without an apparent problem.

 

When I try to enable Bitlocker on the C: drive, I get an error saying

 

"The boot manager of this operating system is not compatible with bitlocker drive encryption. Use the bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to update or repair the boot manager..."

 

Creating a system recovery disk and running 'bootrec /rebuildbcd' doesn't seem to help.

 

Did I miss a step? Has anyone got this working for a Windows 7 guest?

 

I can apparently add a 'D:' drive, and get bitlocker to enable on it, just not the boot c: drive.

View Agent 6.2 won't install on Server 2016 Standard

I am standing up some new 2016 RDS systems and am running in to this error.  Not seeing that Server 2016 isn't supported or any documentation on how to fix this.  Any suggestions?

connecting to an embedded vpostgres db in a windows 2012 r2 installation of vcenter fails

Guys,

 

I can not connect to vcenter via neither web nor vsphere client. Connection test in ODBC Data Sources --> System DSN fails with error the target machine actively refused it [127.0.0.1:5432]. Tried from cmd using the command c:\Program Files\VMware\vCenter Server\vPostgres\bin>psql -U username database_name  and I got an error psql: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061). vpxd log shows a connection error.

 

Furthermore vmware Inventory service can not  start on local computer. Also Vsphere web client and VMware VirtualCenter services can not start on local computer giving error 1068: The dependence service or group failed to start. Inventory service is one of dependence of the virtualcenter. However VMWare Postgres starts and running with no error.    

 

Please help.

VCSA 6.5 - overall health Status unknown

Hello community

 

When I check the summary tab in the webgui of my VCSA 6.5 then under overall health it says unknown. Under Health Messages "unable to get information on available updates" is reported:

When I switch to the Update Section in the Navigator and check the repository for updates, it says that all updates are already installed:

Also by checking the health via API it says "health; gray". The update settings are all left to their default settings.

new install esxi 5.1 u3, windows 2008 sbs, odd behavior

Recently updated (clean install) to exsi 5.1 u3 rollup.   Imported several Linux VM' without issue.   Installed Windows SBS 2008 from CD, same disk as used in previous esxi 5.0 install, where it worked perfectly.   

 

This install, seem to have oddness, in that for virtually any thing I open up, the new window hangs and cannot be closed.  Some are not seen in TaskMgr.  I can log out and back in.   I did some looking from a windows perspective, but it seems this may be a host issue.   I have reinstalled the guest several times, increasing disk space and RAM.

 

Cannot even run event view from GUI or command line.  Hangs.   Known issue with esxi 5.x ?

Migrating from 5.5 stack to 6.0 stack

I have an existing vsphere 5.5 stack; 6 hosts, 1 datacenter, about 50 vm's, and some hacked-together storage...about 11 datastores.

I now have a new vsphere 6.0u3 stack; 6 hosts with vsan, 1 (new) datacenter.

Both stacks are in the same domain, on the same lan, and physically in racks next to each other.

I can ping and vmkping from old to new hosts, and from new to old hosts.

 

Can I simply detach a host from the 5.5 datacenter, attach it to the 6.0 datacenter, and do a storage vmotion from old host to new?

 

That seems way too simple, but hey...I'll take it if it works!

macOS High Sierra get "can not find a valid peer process to connect to", when startup a vm.

Hello,

 

I use mac High  Sierra, and download a Fusion Professional 10.0.1 for 30 days trial version. I continuously get  "can not find a valid peer process to connect to" notification, when I try to install any OS from image.

I am new to use fusion, I try to uninstall the Fusion ( both manually Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838) | VMware KB  and using cleanapp ), and reinstall the Fusion again (for multiple times), but I still get the same error.

I am so confused, I do not know where to find the log to locate to problem. Did anyone meet the same problem. please give me some help, thanks in advance.

Instalación de vCenter server appliance

Buenas Tardes

 

Tengo instalado vcenter server 6.0.0, pero solo puedo accederlo por el esxi, al parecer no está levantando algún servicio, por lo que he decidido hacer una instalación de cero de un nuevo vcenter. Si instalo la versión 6.5.0, tengo problemas con el tema de la licencia?

VM intermittently freezing/pausing after a datastore migration.

Hi,

 

I have a VM that keeps freezing at random times. Its never  under heavy load and is a decently resourced VM. After i completed a datastore migration i have these freezes. 6 other VM's are on the same datastore and host with no issues. The freezes show no error in windows or in vsphere logs.

 

Any ideas what it could be?

Task Status in vCD?

What will happen to the task, if task started from vCD is started on vCenter too and then suddenly connection between vCD and vCenter is lost and after 10-15 mins connection is back. It will fail at vCD or Completed? (what would be the status of this task in vCD)?

Dear Alls ,

 

My server is HP Dl380G10 run ESXI on HP custom  ESX6.5.0 (Build 5310538) but i can't see

(HP 530SFP+) Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57810 10 Gigabit on NICs

 

I follow with 'VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search ' success for install but still not see NICS on ESXI

 

When i used CLI 'lspci -v | grep -A1 -i ethernet' it show as below.

 

000:11:00.1 Ethernet controller Network controller: QLogic Inc. QLogic 57810 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter [vmnic9]

         Class 0200: 14e4:168e

Vcenter and vshpere HA requirements

I am going to deploy vcenter HA and vshpere HA to automate migrate VM to another EXSI host in case of hardware failure.etc.

 

From the docs, I am aware that at lease 3 nodes  with 2 NICs( management and HA network) are required for vcenter HA.

 

I'm curious that can I use 3 node with ESXI installed, and reside Vcenter HA and vshpere VMotion/DRS on the same 3 nodes as well?

 

Does it need 3 NICs( management, HA, Vmotion) if the answer is yes?

 

I have finished the test that Vmotion/DRS and migrated VM automatically, yet with a single Vcenter, wich is a single point of failure.

diskaddexisting command fails on ESXi 6.5

Command : vim-cmd  vmsvc/device.diskaddexisting 22 MY_VM /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/DISK1_PATH/MY_VM_Data_Disk_0001.vmdk 0 2

Output : Failed to find a 3 controller with bus number 0.

Return Code : 0 ( WHY ????, it should be non-zero)

Note :

1> Disk(MY_VM /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/DISK1_PATH/MY_VM_Data_Disk_0001.vmdk) is successfully created before executing this command.

2> SCSI position "0:2" is available (is not occupied) [ I checked by adding from VMware HTML Client, it was adding successfully in 0:2, after command failed)

Firefox 57 Quantum problem

VMware Horizon 7.3.1 + Instant Clones Windows 10 LTSB (1607 14393.1884) + App Volumes 2.13.1 Writable Volume (template_uia_plus_profile.vmdk (2.12.1.39)

 

We have a strange problem with non-admin users using Firefox 57 (installed by users themselves as user app). When they open https sites they have such error

Also F12 Developer Tools don't work and show just blank panel. Google Chrome works without any problems

 

Any Ideas?

Application profile persistence issue for Lotus notes

One of my application called Lotus notes is not persisting user data on next VDI sessions.

 

it was not persisting any of the user data like ID/workstation/preferences and so on..
