Can't install vmware Horizon Client v 2006 for Windows 10 Home

$

I need assistance in successfully downloading VHC version 2006.  Currently, I have had only success in launching/installing versions 5.0 and 5.2.  I can't successfully install or upgrade to the current versions.

I tried the following troubleshooting procedures (I have only tried using the links):

1. Ensured all previous VMware versions were removed prior to installing a new version, except when I tried to upgrade the successfully installed versions.  However, when I do the latter, it removes the original successfully installed version when the install fails.

2. Turned off security protocols during installation

3. Ran the program as administrator

4. Used both the auto and custom install features.  When using custom features, I only had Ipv4 marked.

5. I have met all system requirements.  I have 12 GB of space available on my computer, have the most current version of .NET.

6. I have rebooted the computer between attempts to install.

7.  I get the following event messages:

The VMware Horizon Client service is marked as an interactive service.  However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services.  This service may not function properly.

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID .

Restricting where vm's can be created

Hello all,

I've been trying to wrap my head around this for some time now and I just can't figure out how to make it work the way I would like.  I am being asked to set up the proper permissions to allow our software developers to create/modify/delete virtual machines within our production esxi cluster.  I have this part configured.  The part I am struggling with is restricting this access to a certain area (within a folder or  resource pool etc) - not the entire cluster or datacenter.

I have a custom role set up that has what appears to be the proper permissions - but I feel like I can't get this correct because of where the permissions need to be applied.

Datastore: Allocate space, Browse datastore, Update virtual machine files, Update virtual machine metadata,
Host: Local operations > Create virtual machine, Delete virtual machine, Reconfigure virtual machine
Network: Assign network
Resource: Assign virtual machine to resource pool, Migrate powered off virtual machine, Migrate powered on virtual machine
Virtual Machine: Change Configuration (All)
Virtual Machine: Edit Inventory > Create new, Remove, Unregister
Virtual Machine: Interaction
Virtual Machine: Provisioning > Modify customization specification, Read customization specification
Virtual Machine: Snapshot Management (All)

I am feeling like I need to move the datastores that they are authorized to use into a folder, and set a specific permission on that folder for a datastore role.  Same for networks.  Once I hit the host level I start to question my thoughts.  If I grant Create Virtual Machine permission at the Host level (or Cluster, or DataCenter) this would allow creating a vm across the entire ESXi cluster, correct?

In addition to that - I feel like having to create specific roles / permissions for the datastore layer, network layer, resource layer, vm layer, and host layer seems like a lot of complexity for what I am trying to accomplish.

Again, if I set the above permissions at the Datacenter level and propagate to children, this role is able to perform all of the functions needed for their job.  However, they also have permission to do more than needed.

How do I go about restricting this?

Thanks

Steve

Hi All

We are currently running vCenter Replication 8.2.0.8503

x1 Additional Replication server appliance.

At each site.

Would like to make the upgrade to 8.3.0.2.

It seems this can now be done direct from the VAMMI (can anyone confirm ...?)

Also should i upgrade the Main appliance firse or the additional server, i couldnt see it anywhere in the release notes ?

Mehrere VMs 2 Netzwerke - Workstation 15

Hallo,

ich bin irgendwie zu blöd dafür...ok, ich bin kein Netzwerk-Profi, schaffe es aber, meine VMs zu konfigurieren, sodass sie fast alles machen, was ich will...

Folgende Situation:

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a way to automate moving powered off VMs to a virtual machine folder?  I'm performing a manual method of exporting powered off vms to an excel sheet and joining the vms and commands to a listed output.  Then running the list of powercli commands in a batch.

PowerCLI

move-vm VM1  -Destination "Powered Off VMs"

Thanks!

NSX-T 3.0 - TZ VLAN correct placement (pnics)

Hello all,

One more newbie doubt.

I a have 2 pnics on a vDS assign to Edge nodes for N/S and other 2 pinc assign to an N-VDS for E/W.

For vlan backed segments, where should be the correct placement of the vlan TZ? On the Edge N-VDS or on the Host N-VDS?

Thanks.

Visual Studio 2017 - UEM

Has anyone successfully ran Visual Studio 2017 through Application Profiler? Or have working UEM settings for Visual Studio 2017?

Application Profiler for some reason isn't capturing anything when running VS 2017 and changing configurations settings. Every time you capture it comes back with nothing. So I am doing the configuration in UEM manually. I am having issues with VS 2017 consistently being able to bypass the first time launch configuration settings, when it asks for a theme and what kind of development configuration to use with VS. Sometimes you launch VS 2017 and it thinks everything is good and bypasses the first time launch configuration prompt, and sometimes it thinks this is the first time you have launched it.

This is for Windows 10 1703, UEM 9.2, App Volumes 7.3.2. AppStack was provisioned with the Master Image and has only VS 2017 Enterprise and SQL Management Studio 2016 in it.

Here is our current configuration for it.

I generated the ini and such with the Profiler 9.2, but it wouldn't capture anything. I found all these manually.

VMWare Player library is empty after opening a VM when file history is disabled

Hi,

On Ubuntu 20.04 disabling file history (Settings > Privacy > File History & Rubbish Bin) prevents VMs from being loaded into the VMWare Player library. It looks like it relies on the file $HOME/.local/share/recently-used.xbel rather than its own config files. I would like to report this a bug as there is no useful error message warning the user of this fact. VMs can still be started from the terminal (vmplayer $HOME/vmware/path-to-vm.vbx) with file history disabled. I hope this is useful for anyone that finds it.

NSX-T 3.0.1 Policy UI not working due to error "Failed to fetch Inventory details" - must use Manager UI

$

Hello,

After recently upgrading from NSX-T 3.0 to 3.0.1, I can no longer use the "Policy" UI mode for most panels.  I receive the following error:

Failed to fetch Inventory details. Please contact the administrator. Error: Index out of sync, please resync via 'start search resync policy'.

When logging in via CLI and issuing the command "start search resync policy", nothing happens.  Additionally, I tried rebooting all NSX-T Manager nodes and NSX-T Edge nodes, and the problem persists.

Various UI elements are broken in the "Policy" (default) view, such as viewing Segments, Tier-0 Gateways, and Tier-1 Gateways.  Error messages in the Network Overview panel looks like this:

Failed to get "NETWORKING" report - Index out of sync, please resync via start search resync policy. [].

Failed to get "IP ADDRESS MANAGEMENT" report - Index out of sync, please resync via start search resync policy. [].

Failed to get "NETWORK SERVICES" report - Index out of sync, please resync via start search resync policy. [].

Note that the Policy UI worked great in v3.0.0.  It broke after upgrading to v3.0.1.

Also note that previous upgrades to this system include 2.4.1 -> 2.5.0, 2.5.0 -> 2.5.1, and 2.5.1 -> 3.0.0, all of which were successful and quite quick.  The 3.0.0 -> 3.0.1 upgrade was bumpy, as I needed to manually update VIBs on all ESXi hosts to the 3.0.1 bits.  After doing that, the NSX-T Manager upgrade from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 went well.

Any ideas for troubleshooting the broken Policy UI view?

Thanks,

Bill

Unable to communicate with WIN10 Host

Hello,

New I am new to the community and trying to set up my VMware 15Pro.  Currently have a WIN10 host with Pro installed, running two instances (one for Security Center, the other for Nessus) in and Air-Gapped environment (need it strictly for ACAS scanning).  I am able to ping both instances from the host but unable to reach the host from the inside VM, both instances can talk back and forth.  I have disabled all firewalls (windows defender and VM firewalls), and tried everything I could find via google.  Any pointers you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have vmnic2 and vmnic3 mapped to vDS, which are uplink1 and uplink2.

But in properties of one of the VLAN's, uplink3 also shows up as one of the Active Uplinks. Why does this happen? Shouldnt we see only uplink 1 and 2 here?

What will happen to vSphere Integrated Containers?

$

Hi all,

I've been trying for days to deploy Kubernetes on vSphere but I keep failing--I mean--I keep failing getting a deployment where I feel confident enough to deploy from scratch without following some guide like I can do with every other thing in the infrastructure. It's just too complicated and, since I haven't run Kubernetes anywhere ever, to me the goal is the same as vSphere Integrated Containers' but with more steps. I know it's more than that but I only need an easy way to manage containers without having to think where to stick 'em and optionally can show status on vCenter/Fusion/ESXi.

I'd like to keep using VIC but on its last release, around the time Kubernetes on vSphere was released, things seem to just have stopped plus it always felt like "in the works" to begin with, so I'm unsure if it's a good idea or not. I can't find anything that mentions both VIC and Kubernetes (vSphere 7) anywhere to find some sort of progression/pivot there.

Was VIC abandoned? I know it's may be kept alive by the open source community but it might as well flocked away to Kubernetes because it's the hot new thing of the same interest. Was there a statement or something like that? I don't really follow this and I miss a lot of stuff--for instance, this year I learned I had included access to the newest Log Insight and I was still using 4-something.

Thanks!

Deploying custom app settings for on-demand macOS apps

$

0

With macOS and Workspace ONE, administrators have a lot of flexibility in precisely how native macOS applications are deployed and configured.  Certain applications may utilize Privacy Preference settings, require Kernel Extensions or System Extensions, and/or be configured through the use of a Custom Settings profile.  Additionally, administrators may choose to deploy certain apps automatically to assigned end user devices, or they may choose to make them available in an end user’s WS1 Intelligent Hub, where the user themselves can decide whether they choose to install the app on their device.

As such, when deploying a macOS app to devices, in many cases administrators will deploy both the application itself, as well as one (or more) configuration profile that will supply various app settings.  For applications that deploy automatically, this isn’t a concern because you can simply deploy the corresponding profile automatically as well.  However, for apps that are made available on demand, what’s the best way to ensure that the corresponding profile is only installed if the user chooses to install the app through the Intelligent Hub?  This document will walk through how the WS1 hubcli can be used to deploy an optional profile during the installation process of an on-demand application.

Setting up a Workspace ONE profile with the macOS application configuration

The first step is to create an optional profile in Workspace ONE that covers all the desired application settings.  Keep in mind that the specifics will depend on a particular application and may include Privacy Preferences, Kernel Extensions, System Extensions, and/or various Custom Settings payloads.  This example will walk through deploying Mozilla Firefox, along with a profile that contains two Custom Settings payloads: the first to automatically approve notifications for the end user, and the second to automatically set the Firefox homepage to our corporate website.

1. Create a new macOS profile in your Workspace ONE UEM Console.  Give it your desired profile name

2. In the General payload, make sure the Assignment Type is set to Optional.

3. Assign the profile to the same Smart Groups that the application will be assigned to.

From here, configure the rest of the profile payloads as desired.  In this Firefox example, two Custom Settings payloads will be added:

4. In the Custom Settings payload, paste the following text to automatically enable the application notifications:

<dict>

     <key>NotificationSettings</key>

     <array>

          <dict>

               <key>AlertType</key>

               <integer>2</integer>

               <key>BadgesEnabled</key>

               <true/>

               <key>BundleIdentifier</key>

               <string>org.mozilla.firefox</string>

               <key>CriticalAlertEnabled</key>

               <true/>

               <key>GroupingType</key>

               <integer>0</integer>

               <key>NotificationsEnabled</key>

               <true/>

               <key>ShowInLockScreen</key>

               <true/>

               <key>ShowInNotificationCenter</key>

               <true/>

               <key>SoundsEnabled</key>

               <true/>

          </dict>

     </array>

     <key>PayloadDescription</key>

     <string>Configures notifications settings.</string>

     <key>PayloadDisplayName</key>

     <string>Notification Settings</string>

     <key>PayloadIdentifier</key>

     <string>com.apple.notificationsettings.ABE75EA9-C93C-4F5F-A66D-36B851CC2635</string>

     <key>PayloadType</key>

     <string>com.apple.notificationsettings</string>

     <key>PayloadUUID</key>

     <string>ABE75EA9-C93C-4F5F-A66D-36B851CC2635</string>

     <key>PayloadVersion</key>

     <integer>1</integer>

</dict>

5. Still in the Custom Settings payload, select the “+” icon in the bottom-right corner to create a new payload, then paste the following text to define the homepage:

<dict>

     <key>EnterprisePoliciesEnabled</key>

     <true/>

     <key>Homepage</key>

     <dict>

          <key>Locked</key>

          <true/>

          <key>StartPage</key>

          <string>homepage</string>

          <key>URL</key>

          <string>https://www.vmware.com</string>

     </dict>

     <key>PayloadDescription</key>

     <string>Configures Firefox settings</string>

     <key>PayloadDisplayName</key>

     <string>Firefox</string>

     <key>PayloadIdentifier</key>

     <string>2C284A01-E458-4BBC-B185-021CCC8CB070</string>

     <key>PayloadOrganization</key>

     <string></string>

     <key>PayloadType</key>

     <string>org.mozilla.firefox</string>

     <key>PayloadUUID</key>

     <string>2C284A01-E458-4BBC-B185-021CCC8CB070</string>

     <key>PayloadVersion</key>

     <integer>1</integer>

</dict>

6. Select Save and Publish and then Publish the profile.

Get the Workspace ONE Profile ID

You’ll need the Profile ID for use with the hubcli command later on.  To get this, open the Devices > Profiles & Resources > Profiles page in the Workspace ONE UEM Console. Right-click the profile you just created, and select Copy Link (or your browser equivalent).  Paste the copied link, and you should see something in a form similar to:

https://<WS1_UEM_URL>/AirWatch/Profiles/DeviceProfileEdit/12345?isReadOnlyProfileView=False&addVersion=False

The Profile ID is the numeric value that comes after /DeviceProfileEdit/, highlighted in red above.

Using hubcli to install the profile as an app is installed

Your application should be uploaded and deployed through the Software Distribution area of the Workspace ONE UEM Console (that is, under Apps & Books > Applications > Native > Internal).  For more information on deploying non-Store macOS apps in Workspace ONE, check out this Techzone article: Deploying a Third-Party macOS App: VMware Workspace ONE Operational Tutorial.

Proceed to the Edit Application page, or if you have an existing application already, choose to Edit it.  From here, navigate to the Scripts tab.  Under the Install Scripts section, take note of the two text fields:

  • Pre-Install Script– Any script included here will execute prior to the installation of the application.
  • Post Install Script– Any script included here will execute after the installation of the application.

In most cases, you’ll be able to use the hubcli to install the application profile in either of these fields with no difference in behavior.  With certain advanced application packages, however, it’s possible that certain configurations may need to be set either before or after the application install.

In the case of our Firefox example, we’ll use the Pre-Install Script field, to install the Configuration Profile just before the application installation.  In that field, paste the following script.  Make sure to replace the Profile ID with the value you found above!

#!/bin/sh

/usr/local/bin/hubcli profiles --install 12345

The field should look similar to the image below:

Firefoxhubcli.png

From here, select Save & Assign and, if needed, Add Assignment to create the assignment for your app.  Within the assignment, make sure the App Delivery Method is set to On Demand, and that Display in App Catalog is enabled.  Publish the app.

With this setup, you’ve created a configuration that applies settings used by a particular application. Additionally, you’ve set up that application to be deployed through the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub app catalog with an on-demand deployment methodology.  Through the use of the hubcli as a pre-install (or post-install) script, you’ve configured the configuration profile to install only when the application is installed as well.
