VMNICs are showing disconnected

HI Guys,

Some of my VMNICs (3 out of 5) are showing disconnected while i checked in DCUI of the ESXi (IBM) box.

Raised a case with vendor and got the reply as " Actually your VMNICs are not down but their ports are blocked"

Could you help me with commands or steps to check that port information on the server and open the ports.

Thank you,

Sathish Vijay

Program misbehaves when any app volume is assigned.

The programs is called CaseWare Working Papers 2018. I have tried installing it directly on the image and as an app volume. When it's installed directly on the image, it will work fine as long as the logged in user doesn't have any app volumes assigned. The second an app volume is assigned and the program is launched, the attached error appears. Restarting the program does work, but people are going to be concerned seeing this message over and over. If the program is installed as an appvol, the program cannot fix itself.

I have spoken with the software's support and they tell me this error normally pops up after a Windows 10 update breaks some symbolic registry links. We however are using Windows 7, and it's not an update issue. The symptoms only manifest when the App Volumes Agent Services is running. I have tried to copy the reg keys it supposedly changes after pressing Yes on the error message, but that doesn't help.

I'm wondering if there is a way to capture the symbolic link changes and manually have UEM do them on log in, or if there is some way to not have Appvolumes effect this program. It's a key program to our business and has completely stalled our Horizon roll out.

I know it's a long shot but any help is greatly appreciated.

Nested deployement: Are parameters title confusing or is it just me?

Hi Communities,

Running ESXi 6.5, I was digging on 2 CPU parameters for my VMs:

  1. Hardware virtualization: Expose Hardware assisted Virtualization to the guest OS
  2. CPU/MMU Virtualization: Automatic/Hard CPU & Soft MMU/Soft CPU & Hard MMU/Both hard

I understood that we have two level/generations of native virtualized instructions here:

  1. Hardware virtualization: use VT-X (or AMD-V) for my guest
  2. CPU/MMU Virtualization: Use Intel EPT (or AMD-V Nested paging) for my guest

But, what is not clear is why we are mixing CPU in CPU/MMU Virtulization? the choice of "Hardware CPU (& {soft, hard} memory)" is about to use VT-X right? So if I choose Hardware CPU in 2) and not checking "Hardware virtualization" in 1), it's confusing right?

Furthermore, I have an esxi running on a Xeon(R) Gold 6126 (yeah), that have VT-X/EPT... And I can not choose Hardware MMU and CPU on parameter 2), even if I checked 1) !

Please enlight me community!

Thanks & have a nice day!

VCF with VVD Plumbing?

$

Hey all,

As you probably know, when deploying VCF with Cloud Builder NSX-V deploys controllers and installs vRLI on the VLAN backed portgroup during bring up.  My assumption is that the networking architecture under the covers that should be used is the VVD architecture to allow for multi-region futures.  However, when deploying vRSLCM, VCF only asks for a VLAN and creates a VLAN backed portgroup during deployment and configuration.  So a few questions hopefully you can help answer for me:

1. In the VVD architecture, vRSLCM is put on the cross region VXLAN so that it can perform a site failure.  I've tried editing the portgroup post deployment but it fails during vRLI import.

2.  I've deployed ESGs and UDLRs in the typical VVD fashion but am concerned about how the rest of the workflows will tie into the architecture (vROps and vRA).

3.  In a multi-region scenario, are we saying that there will be a SDDC manager at both sites?

TIA!

Microsoft SQL Cluster on top of vsphere 6.7

Hello,

I am deploying an SQL cluster on top of VMware vSphere and we are finding and discussing all the options available for SCSI controller and disk Sharing.

I appreciate your advice about these topics specially for RDM disk Sharing and the difference between Multi-Writer, Unspecified and No sharing.

HDD Disk Cache Setting

Hi,

I'm implementing an hybrid vSAN infrastructure and I have a question about the disk cache setting.

Hardware:

4x Lenovo x3650

2x disk groups per host with the folowing hard drive :

1x800GB SSD for caching tier

7x1,2TB HDD for the capacity tier

SAS Controller Lenovo N2215.

My question : Do I need to enabled or disabled this setting?

This is a setting in the controller bios for each hard drive :  Disk Cache Setting (Enabled or Disabled)

I know we need to disabled the controller cache, since I do not have any cache on that controller, i'm ok. I'm just confuse about the Disk Cache Setting since I didn't found any information, except in the VmWare compatibility guide that said : Mandatory: Disk Cache

Thanks

David

vmrc 10.6 blinks end-user screen on conneciton

$

We are on the slow march towards win10, and happened across an unexpected behavior today.

We had been using vmrc 4 as an IT support tool to remote onto people's machines for tech support calls.  It was quick and invisible to the end-user.

We are moving our admin PCs over to win10 now, and vmrc 4 does not work (it launches in the background, but the GUI never comes up?), so we downloaded vmrc 10.6 and modified the code in our tool to make it connect.  Problem is that the connection process is extremely disturbing to end-users.  Their screen blinks down to 1 display, and moves all windows to that display, then blinks again to bring their 2nd display back, but does not move anything back to it.

Is there a way we can make the newer version of vmrc  work the way the old one did where it is silent to the users?  Or at the very least does not make them re-organize all of their windows every time they call the help desk?

The behavior happens if we launch vmrc 10.6 from either a win7 machine, or win10, so it appears to be a setting in the tool rather than the move to win10, but I do not see any sort of config options available which may affect this.

The deployed VM's network settings are incorrect.

Hi, all.

The VM was deployed with a different IP than the network profile.

network-profile-1.PNGI have assigned the range 10.10.27.200 to 10.10.27.229

network-profile-2.PNGIn vRA, deployed VM's IP address is 10.10.27.200

real-vm.PNG

However, the IP that you see in the VM has a completely different IP allocation.

What am I supposed to fix?

   Thanks for your advice !

Hey!

I configured a fresh installed VMware vSphere cluster with 3 single node and when I should try to testing NFS share performance the VM hasn't started. I watched vmkernel logs in /var/log what happened with datastore and I saw this:

Adding 2nd Hard Disk to Guest

Hello All,

Host: Windows 10 Pro

Guest: OpenSuSE

I am attempting to give my Linux Guest OS access to the SD Card slot on my laptop. I followed the instructions found at the link below, which shows how to add the SD Card slot as a 2nd Hard Disk. But, when I do this, the Guest does NOT boot. I just get a black screen as soon as I hit Play to start the Guest, and I never see the VMWare Bios screen or anything like that. Almost appears as if it's trying to boot to the second Hard Disk, which is currently an empty SD Card.

https://www.htpcguides.com/how-to-use-sd-card-reader-in-vmplayer-and-vmworkstation/

As soon as I shutdown the Guest, and remove the 2nd HDD the Guest boots up just fine. So I'm not sure what the issue is? I've tried adding it as IDE, SATA and SCSi devices, but the result is the same for all, Guest doesn't boot with 2nd HDD added to VM Settings.

One last thing I'm noticing, after I remove the 2nd HDD and boot up the Guest. If I look at Removable Devices, there is a device available called "Realtek USB3.0-CRW". If I select that device and click "Connect" to connect it to the Guest, I notice that the SDCard disappears from the Windows 10 Host's Disk Management. Almost as if it's disconnecting the SD Card from the Host and adding it to the Guest. But, running fdisk in the Guest doesn't show the SD Card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance,

Matt

Hello,

I'm trying to add a domain to my vRA environment.

However when doing that I get the error => Could not join domain: Error occurred while joining domain. Verify Domain Admin username and password is correct, and the username is the sAMAccountName. Failed to join domain. Error Code: ERROR_BAD_FORMAT. Message:

I'm sure the userids are correct.
I can resolve the domain on my appliances and there isn't a firewall in between.

I've found the same issue here in the community but there wasn't any feedback on how it was solved (Vrealize 7.0 integration with Active directory )

Anybody has some ideas on how to solve it?

NSX-T identity based data from other sources?

We currently use identity based rules with the FortiNet product (physical firewall) and want to feed username/IP info from their collector (which works very well) into NSX-Ts identity based fw to be able to use id based rules with VRA.

We are exploring NSX options rather than having to automate rules on the fortiGate FW.  Can we feed AD ip/username data into NSX?  Is there a way possibly via API to feed NSX this information?

Edit: can someone confirm our suspicion that guess introspection is the only way nst-t can update it's u see up mappings out of the box ?  Meaning that there is no active directory log scraping in nsx-t?

Regards.

c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\autodesk\autcad2018\R22.0\enu.   if we delete the profile it works sometimes.  the %username% originally was the username we used to capture the profile setting.  when i saw that i went into the flexfile and changed it to %username% hoping it just user the current account name that was logged in but this did not work.

ResourceConfig.getStatus does not exist. Is there any other way to get collection status of a resource object?

I want to remove the resource objects from the inventory explorer of my adapter which has collection status as RESOURCE_STATUS_NO_DATA_RECEIVING. Since vROPs does not immediately remove them, they are getting accumulated and causing a slowdown of the system.

What I'm thinking of doing is checking the collection status of each resource and if it is RESOURCE_STATUS_NO_DATA_RECEIVING, I'll set the collection state as RESOURCE_STATE_NOT_EXISTING which will be removed by vROPS according to this (VMware Knowledge Base).

But when I'm getting the ResourceConfig using getMonitoringResource(ResourceKey), It is just giving me the collection state of the resource using ResourceConfig.getState() but not the status.

The function to get status as mentioned in documentation (vrealize-operations-manager-SDK-70-programming-guide) does not exist which is ResourceConfig.getStatus().

Is there any way I can get the status of resource object? Or any other way I can tackle the problem I'm facing?

I thought of getting resource status for object type Process using ResourceDto object but I could not create the ResourceDto object for the Process Object type.

I'm using vROps SDK version 7.0

So I am trying to setup a shutdown script (.bat file) for my UPS to automatically shutdown the VMs and ESXI/Vsphere when the battery is low before it completes dies

I have enabled putty with ssh and public/private key for login which works but every time the script runs it prompts to press enter after the login so the script wont run until the press enter is done

Is there something I am missing

The script is essentially this

c:\putty\plink.exe ESXI  "/sbin/shutdown.sh && /sbin/poweroff"
